Christian Store Week

Next week is the beginning of Christian Store Week and the publishing industry is getting ready for it. Many CAN authors will be at stores for events and book signings. 

 

A store event does not mean simply sitting at a table signing books. Last year I took part in the week and enjoyed sharing crafts from one of my books for girls. The store set up a tent outside for the event that coincided with a street fair. That made it lots of fun and an active event.

Behind the scenes some authors will actually be spending a day working at a store. They'll be walking in a retailer's shoes. They may be stocking shelves, sharing marketing ideas with staff, or even sweeping floors. It's great for authors and retailers to learn more about one another's jobs and what happens in other parts of this industry.

Some CAN authors in Texas are planning a mutli-author event. Hopefully they will take turns speaking, interact with customers, and sign books.

Behind the scenes some song artists and well known authors have contributed toward a CD to raise funds for needy children. The $5 donation for the CD will go to feeding hungry children across America. In these hard economic times this is a great project that also gives readers something to enjoy while helping little ones.

Check out author and book displays that week too. I like to do more than have my books sitting out. As this photo shows I like a pretty backdrop that's eye-catching to draw people's interest. It also adds a festive look when authors use displays at book signings.

The event actually lasts from September 28-October 5th so drop by your local store (or any in places where you'll be traveling) and enjoy some special savings, the CD, and see if there's an author event. 

This is the 3rd year of the event and it continues to grow. More stores join in holding events each year. If your store doesn't hold one this year encourage them to do something next year.
