Hi from Gail Gaymer Martin at www.gailmartin.com I’m always on the lookout for new ideas when it comes to promotion. While reading an article, I ran across a creative and unique idea from Canadian writer Julie Ferguson. The idea is interesting and one that's unique so I wanted to share it with you. You can do your own take on this and come up with something that works for you.
Ferguson wanted to try some thing that she’d never seen done before and she wanted something that was inexpensive. Knowing that people always like free gifts, she designed a promotional floopy disc that she offered at booksignings and other events where she appeared. This concept will work for fiction and non-fiction alike.
She included a preview of her book on the disc, made a illustrative label she designed on her own from an Avery label, and she people grabbed them as if they were gems. She said, "It worked like a charm for print and e-books. The preview of each book included:
The print flyer first with the short blurb about the book and a short author's bio
- The book's cover headed by an invitation to read the preview
- Publication data page with the copyright statement
- Table of contents
- First couple of chapters
- Ordering or purchasing details
You can include other creative ideas on this disc. How about an author interview? You could add a brief blurb on what inspired you to write the book. You might add reviews from other published works. Be creative and you’ll come up with some great ideas for your own discs. It will cost you no more than giving away a ballpoint pen and yet it will accomplish much more by tempting the reader to run out and purchase your upcoming release.
