Free Photos for Your Book Trailer
Jill Elizabeth Nelson here to provide you with a handy-dandy list of sites to check out for free photos for your homemade book trailer. For details on how to construct a trailer from start to finish, see my blog post of February 17, 2007, and Virginia Smith's posts of April 28, 2008, and May 5, 2008. Since photos are such an intergral part of the process, it's essential to have a number of sites to check out in order to find just the right ones.
Read the site rules carefully in order to determine if the photos are truly free for personal AND commercial use (a book trailer is commercial) before helping yourself. On some sites, the photos are "royalty free," but do require a varying fee to use them for commercial purposes. Make your selections in accordance with your budget. Also, there may be other stipulations, such as crediting the source of the photo along with your use of it. Be sure to comply with such requirements.
Here's a list of photo sources:
http://www.freestockphotos.com (free)
http://www.stockxpert.com (small fee)
http://www.bigfoto.com (free)
Stock.xchng - http://www.sxc.hu/ (many free)
http://www.morguefile.com (free)
Most photo sources on the web require either registration with them or fees that range from modest to exhorbitant, or both. The above sites are for the budget-conscious author, which takes in the majority of us. Happy shopping!
