You don’t want to be a boring blog, right? Well, change things up a little. Here are a few suggestions.
Have a few guest posts or celebrity posts. If you have friends who could write a guest blog post, that adds both variety and traffic to your blog. A different voice is often refreshing for your readers, and your friend can link to the guest blog post from their blog or website.
For example, I will often have other Christian chick lit authors write a special guest blog post. My blog readers know I write chick lit, and seeing other authors can be intriguing for them. Sometimes it’ll be an author they’re familiar with, like Kristin Billerbeck. Other times, it’s a new author that my readers might be interested in picking up, like mom lit author Sharon Hinck.
I don’t often have authors from other genres guest blogging on my blog unless it’s someone who’s a particular friend. That’s because my blog is geared toward my audience, chick lit readers. Chick lit readers don’t necessarily read thrillers or literary fiction. However, because many chick lit readers love romance and women’s fiction, I will sometimes have an author from one of those genres on my blog.
Do a few interviews. Along the lines of a celebrity blog, conduct a few online interviews and post the interview on your blog. It not only showcases your guest, but you can also add your own personality to your interview questions.
For example, I purposely write my blog so that my readers can expect a light, fun read. Therefore, my interview questions reflect that tone. I don’t ask many serious questions. On the contrary, I’ll often ask very silly questions so that the author and my blog readers can have fun.
Whatever the tone of your blog, you can tailor your interview questions to fit your personality, your writing style, and your theme.
Think outside the box! Be creative! Have fun!
Change is good. There are lots of options to liven up your blog and change things up every so often. It’ll keep people coming back to your blog.

Camy Tang is the loud Asian chick who writes loud Asian chick-lit. Her debut novel, Sushi for One?, releases September 2007, and she runs the Story Sensei critique service. In her blog, she gives away books and ponders frivolous things like dumb dogs (namely, hers), coffee-geek husbands (absolutely no resemblance to her own...), the writing journey, Asiana, and anything else that comes to mind.

I'm starting to do some of these very things on my new pioneer parenting blog. Great tips!
